SPATIAL LAYOUT ANALYSIS OF MODEL

In order to explore spatial qualities of the training centre I explored the form of the building through sketch models. Modelling allowed me to explore the spatiality of the building, where voids would be placed and allowed me to see how the steel frame structure would respond to these disruption. This model analysies the main form of the building, not responding to the roof formation which is explored further elsewhere. From this model I have begun to realise the form of the building and use as a basis for exploring the enveloping system.

DEVELOPING INITIAL FORM

In order to develop the form of the training centre I began by understanding the formation of the building through modelling software. As I knew the basic floor plans I began exploring how the roof could be developed to create creative shapes. As I progressed through the designing, I made quick decisions on what possibilities there are for the building.

In order to explore the form and structure of the training centre I explored the form of the building through sketch models. Modelling allowed me to explore the spatiality of the building, where voids would be placed and how the structure responds to these disruptions. This model analysies the main form of the building, not responding to the roof formation which is  explored further elsewhere. From this model I have begun to realise the structural elements and use as a basis for exploring the enveloping system.

After exploring using brick as the main materiality for the training centre and analysing elements through technologies I came to the conclusion to change the materiality of the top half of the building to become timber clad. This meant to that the form of the roof would be changed.

The form now takes its concept from two boxes (plan remains the same) placed on top of one another, with the idea that the timber clad is almost floating on top of the brick base

NEW ROOF FORM DESIGN

Designing the new roof form was based on the concept of journeying and connection on site. How everything on site circulates up to the central public space outside of the Training Centre. Therefore, I wanted to the roof to contribute to creating this circulation and creating a gathering space. By bringing the roof down slightly from a higher point at the front you get the feeling of being drawn into something and connect with the space below.
