PRELIMINARY DESIGN
AXONOMETRIC
Circulation is key issue needing to be addressed on site to avoid the introverted feeling. This drawing shows the floor layout including bridge system, as well as the key circulation around each of the floors.
EXPERIENTIAL SPACES
The structural framework and the first floor bridges create an industrial feeling, yet the gardens which line the bridges create a more open and green sense deeply contrasting with the harshness of the steel frame. Spaces below become interesting and interwtining, with shops created within the framework.
In order to summarise my work from this module as well as to gain an understanding of where this project is progressing, I have laid out five points of how I aim to progress.
1. Develop form, currently the building is still programmatic and relates more to programme than to context or aesthetics. I want to challenge the design to develop an exciting and beautiful form which makes Leaf St a place where people want to visit.
2. Develop structure, I have already began hinting at some areas of structure with a grid formation and the ideas of framework and bridge systems. Developing this area but hand in hand in with form is something I want to be aware of.
3. Define spaces on needs. I have begun thinking of the detailed programme of the buildings, howeve further and deeper research into these areas will be needed in order to design the most relevant and needed spaces.
4. Relate the project back to the community. As the project develops I need to progress in such a way that constantly relates itself back to the people and issue. I want to make sure that the design of this project is rooted in Hulme to make sure that is as successful as it can be in addressing the issues that have been laid out.
5. Addressing green space. As mentioned throughout site anaylsis and key issues, Leaf St is a green site. Progressing with this at the forefront will be important. I want this space to remain as green as possible, creatively designing these areas into the site will be a challenge but preserving the essence of green space is important here.
