FIRE SAFETY STRATEGY

Approaching the design for Leaf St I firstly want to highlight the key design factors in influening the design of the Training Centre and Retail Units. These five key points helped to lead design decisions and realign decisions along the way in creating the most vibrant environment for the people who will use Leaf St.

Developing a fire safety strategy for the buildings and the site is key for such a public space. Below shows diagrams of how fire safety has been considered within the Training Centre and the Retail Units with consideration of travel distance to an escape, the use of fire stairs and the creation of assembly points around site.

THE TRAINING CENTRE FIRE STRATEGY
THE RETAIL UNITS FIRE SAFETY
The retail units are all on one level therefore there are no fire stairs needed for escape. The travelling distance of 18m when there is option for travel in more than one direction has been met by each unit, meaning that the escape distance is safe. Escape routes are labelled on the site along with potential assembly points around the site.
The training centre fire safety strategy includes enclosed fire stairs and escape on the north facade, three main entrances which can be used as fire escape and a main stair which is appropriate for travel during a fire. Assembly points around site have been labelled with their access from the building also shown.
