THE LECTURE THEATRE

LONG SPAN STRUCTURE

ROOF FORM

The lecture space was to be a place where people could come to gather. The idea was that lectures and presentations could be in this space and it could also become a place used by the wider community. The lecture space took on the structural approach of a long span structure, using gluelam post and beams to create a long pitched roof. The front of the building would be decorative, with brick slips facing out towards the training centre, complimenting the materiality of the building.

CHANGING PROGRAMME

As I began developing the plan for the lecture theatre it was becoming more clear that there was no need for such a large space with room avaliable and more integrated within the Training centre. The lecture theatre was designed up to this level when I began to rethink this space

What made most sense was bringing one of the floor plans of the retail units up to this point. I then reangled the facade along with the line of circulation. Moving the retail space to face the Training centre creates a direct connection across from the two buildings and unites the rest of the retail units to the training centre.
