The geometry of the retail units creates obscure and undulating angles, meaning exploring the roof form was a key aspect of tackling design. Exploring this through model making was the obvious choice as it allowed me to physically explore what the roof structure would be like. I began by overlaying card onto the forms I had created, however I noticed the need for the structural walls internally to be built as they play a vital role in contributing to the form of the roof. As I developed the roof the relationship between needing structure and the design element increased until I was able to create the roof forms I desired.
